Power and Air Quality in Mississauga

On September 30, 2009, the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) awarded a contract to TransCanada to build and operate a new gas-fired power plant in Oakville.

Of the four proponents who competed for a contract to supply peak power to the southwest GTA, three proposed to build a plant in Clarkson’s Southdown Industrial District.

The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has also announced a new energy efficiency program that will help local industries lower their emissions.

In addition, the Ministry of the Environment has established a new task force to further develop and adapt the plan to reduce emissions in our area.

Since taking office in 2007, Charles has been an outspoken advocate for our community on the issues of air quality and new power generation.

He has attended rallies, hosted open houses, addressed Mississauga city council, met with stakeholders and asked tough questions on the floor of the legislature on these issues.
